Hollywood and the Media Really Upset by Ricky Gervais’ Hosting at 2020 Golden Globes

Oh, Hollywood and the media – both worlds consisting largely of very vocal liberals – did not take kindly to host Ricky Gervais dressing down of them at all.

I am not an expert on all things Gervais, but I gather from what I have read that he is an atheist and a liberal.

Hollywood types and the liberal media – and most of our journalists are liberal – loathe anyone who is a conservative or who lives in what they dismiss as “fly over country.”

Then your “everyday” liberals on Twitter were throwing a fit, lecturing conservatives, “Hey, you guys DO realize that Gervais is an atheist and a liberal, and he probably wouldn’t agree with your views, right?” -Yeah, we know, and we don’t care.

I’m actually fine with people holding opposing views to mine, so long as they are not unreasonable, rude, or arrogant about it – or hypocritical.

What Gervais did was point out what enormous hypocrites most of Hollywood are, and they did not like it one bit.

In an older post on my blog, I noted how thrilled I was that Swift – known for singing pop songs – was keeping any political opinions she may have had to herself.

In the past year or two, that has certainly changed. It seems she’s getting even more political in the last few months.

A word here for any “Swifties” (die hard Swift fans – a lot of hard-core fan bases these days can be very toxic): I do not have anything against Taylor Swift. I do not hate Ms. Swift, and I wish her the best.

My general preference, though, is for celebrities to stick to entertaining and not opine publicly about politics.

When I first read about the allegations – actor Smollett, formerly of the television show “Empire,” claimed to have been attacked by two white men wearing MAGA (“Make America Great Again”) hats in Chicago, who he claims assaulted him and yelled at him, “This is MAGA country!” – I didn’t jump in to comment either way.

I initially felt there was something “off” and too strange about Smollett’s account to be true, but I wasn’t totally sure. I was willing to wait a few days to see what, if anything, the Chicago police department would say, before weighing in and offering my opinion.

As the days went by, more and more details emerged, to the point the Chicago police department had a press conference where they laid out a lot of the evidence and details that revealed that there was no hate crime: Smollette had hired two of his friends to pretend to attack him. Smollett is still maintaining his innocence, but it looks to me as though he is guilty, that he staged the whole affair.

Before the cops came out and said much of anything, liberal celebrities were all over Twitter defending him, and blaming anyone who voted for Trump (I myself sat out the 2016 election, so I did not vote for Trump) – liberal celebrities were blaming anyone who voted for Trump. They were depicting anyone who voted for Trump as being racist and being anti-homosexual.

I sometimes find it difficult to re-watch a movie with an actor in it who I have since discovered is rude, arrogant, abusive, or some kind of jerk, in real life.

Ditto with singers. Now that the “Leaving Neverland” documentary has been released, I find myself a little reluctant to listen to pop songs by Michael Jackson anymore.

It’s sometimes hard to know how, when, or if to stop supporting an artist when one discovers said artist is a dirt bag in his or her personal life.

This circus never ends. I initially was not going to blog about this, but it keeps coming up in the news.

Actor Kevin Hart was being proposed to host the next Oscars, until someone said he made some really old tweets mocking homosexual people. Then liberals got in a tizzy, demand he not get the gig, and now, they are really shrieking that he should apologize.

 Just 48 hours after agreeing to host the 91st Academy Awards, Kevin Hart unceremoniously stepped down late Thursday night on social media.

The turn of events followed outcry over previous anti-gay tweets, and comments Hart made during stand-up routines nearly 10 years ago. Some of the tweets were feverishly deleted throughout the day on Thursday, leading to an Instagram video from the comedian that only made matters worse for him.

The 70th Annual Emmy Awards kicked off with a slew of political jokes and jabs as expected. But one remark from co-host Michael Che left many viewers upset.

During Che’s opening monologue with his fellow “Saturday Night Live” star Colin Jost, Che explained that his mother would not be watching the show on Monday night.

“My mother is not watching,” Che said. “She says she doesn’t like watching white award shows because you guys don’t thank Jesus enough.”

He continued, “That’s true. The only white people that thank Jesus are Republicans and ex-crackheads.”
