What Does Hollywood’s Reverence for Child Rapist Roman Polanski Tell Us? by Hadley Freeman

What Does Hollywood’s Reverence for Child Rapist Roman Polanski Tell Us? by Hadley Freeman

… On 1 February 1978, after 42 days in jail, Polanski fled the US while awaiting final sentencing, having pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. On these facts, everyone agrees.

There are no hazy conspiracy theories – we know exactly what happened because Polanski admitted to it and later wrote about it in astonishing detail in his autobiography, Roman by Polanski, published six years after he left the US and went to France, where he still lives.

… But, in truth, for many British and US actors, working with Polanski never lost its cachet, and arguably had even more once he became excluded from the US mainstream.

Sigourney Weaver, Harrison Ford, Johnny Depp, Ewan McGregor, Pierce Brosnan, Kate Winslet and many more have appeared in Polanski movies in the decades since his conviction, and questions about why they were working with a convicted child rapist were seen as tacky, proof of a rigid mind more focused on gossip than art.

Sylvester Stallone’s Temper Problem and Gross Weirdness

Sylvester Stallone’s Temper Problem and Gross Weirdness

(This post has been updated to add new information. Latest update: January 5,  2018)

I began work on another post or two, related to the sexual abuse allegations against Stallone by various women, and I don’t know when or if I’ll get around to finishing those.

In the course of looking up more material for those posts, I ran across some other  disturbing, gross information on the man.

For legal purposes: imagine everything below has the word “alleged” in front of it.

Personally, I have no reason to doubt this information, because I cannot see what any of these people have to gain by it discussing it, and I’m starting to see a pattern emerge with some of these things.

I do believe Stallone raped and verbally abused his half sister, and that he sexually exploited teen girls at the height of his fame.

All of that is degenerate enough, but this other information – about the hotel rooms, hiring prostitutes to defecate in front of him, and so forth – is also disgusting.

TONE DEAF: Oscar Buzz For Movie About Romance Between 25-Year-Old Man And 17-Year-Old Boy by Paul Bois

TONE DEAF: Oscar Buzz For Movie About Romance Between 25-Year-Old Man And 17-Year-Old Boy by Paul Bois

Some excerpts:

In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, as scores of Hollywood’s A-list talent and power brokers are being exposed for their alleged sexual misconduct, it seems oddly tone deaf for the industry to hail as an “Oscar contender” a movie about a 25-year-old man seducing a 17-old-boy.

Yet, the movie, “Call Me By Your Name,” stars Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”), as a lecherous 25-year-old preying on the 17-year-old Timothée Chalamet (“Interstellar”) during one hot Italian summer in 1983.

The 1976 Rocky Movie in Light of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Sylvester Stallone

The 1976 Rocky Movie in Light of Sexual Abuse Allegations Against Sylvester Stallone

I believe that actor Sylvester Stallone is more like the Paulie character from the Rocky movies in real life than like the Rocky Balboa character he actually played in the Rocky movies, which I will explain as this post progresses.

I really wasn’t that familiar with the Rocky movies growing up, so I revisited them not that long ago.

I just saw the 1976 Rocky movie a few weeks ago on cable television, in addition to all the Rocky sequels, and, as I am older now, I was able to more fully appreciate what the original movie was about, the themes and the relationships.

I felt that the Rocky and Adrian characters were wonderful.

Rocky may not be very intelligent, but he seems fundamentally kind, decent, and honest, which won me over.

Rocky Balboa doesn’t seem to be the type of guy who’d sexually abuse his half-sister, sexually exploit a teen fan, tell a girlfriend who he believes to be pregnant with his baby that he’ll offer her a lot of money to abort the baby, habitually ignore his children, and doesn’t seem to be the sort of guy who’d cheat on his wife.

And yet, in real life, it looks like Stallone has done those very things (and see my previous post about the Stallone sexual abuse accusations for more links):

(I have a running list of sexual assault allegations against Sylvester Stallone in this post on this blog under the “New Allegations” section of the post)

I like the fact that the Rocky character is a person of conviction – he may have started out as a reluctant enforcer for the mafia, true – but he’s basically a humble, decent guy.

I’m not seeing much evidence of Stallone having similar, well-grounded morals in his private life. He is quite the opposite, unfortunately.

Response to Brigitte Nielsen’s Defense of Sylvester Stallone in Midst of Sexual Abuse Allegations

Response to Brigitte Nielsen’s Defense of Sylvester Stallone in Midst of Sexual Abuse Allegations

Nielsen, one of Stallone’s ex-wives, is now rushing to Stallone’s defense in the midst of allegations that Stallone, in 1986, pressured a teen girl to perform sexual acts on himself and his bodyguard, de Luca.

Here are a few links to Nielsen’s defense, followed by my critiques of her response:

Sylvester Stallone’s ex-wife slams sexual assault accusation – Nov 20, 12017

Via the Daily Mail:

Sylvester Stallone’s ex-wife Brigitte Nielsen says he could not have sexually assaulted a 16-year-old because he was with her at the time

…But in an interview with TMZ, the star’s ex-wife Brigitte Nielsen, said the incident could not have occurred because the couple were inseparable at the time

‘During the summer of 1986 we were newlyweds. I was inseparable with Sylvester when Over The Top was being shot in Las Vegas.

‘The story claims that at approximately 8:30 in the evening during the shoot of the movie the person claims she was in our suite at the Hilton Hotel.’

She continued: ‘This incident did not occur. Most of the day, I would watch him film, then we’d have dinner and go to our room. No other person was in the room with him, but me.’

–(end quote)–

I would be interested in knowing why Nielsen is speaking up in defense of Stallone at this point?

Did Stallone or one of his P.R. people privately contact her and ask her to speak up in his defense?

Did Stallone offer Nielsen a role in one of his upcoming movies maybe?

Is she really just doing this out of the goodness of her heart?

Response to Brigitte Nielsen’s (November 2017) Defense of Sylvester Stallone in Midst of Sexual Abuse Allegations

Assume or imagine that the word “alleged” appears before any discussion of abuse allegations in these posts, including this one, should you not see it.
Putting this disclaimer in here in case I forgot to stick the word “alleged” in front of each and every accusation.
I am not stating it is a fact that Stallone did abuse anyone, but it is my opinion, which is based on news reports and information on blogs (which I link to through out), that he is a serial sexual and physical abuser.

This post has been edited several times to update it with new information. Most recent update: January 2018

Before I discuss the sexual abuse accusations against Stallone, I wanted to explain what my original motive was for posting about him – and it wasn’t about the sexual abuse allegations.

About a month and a half ago, I sat through a Rocky movie marathon on a cable channel.

I had not really seen the first Rocky movie – well, I had, as a kid – but I was too young to fully understand everything in the movie.

My brother had rented copies of Rocky 2, 3, and 4 when I was a teenager, or possibly when I was in my 20s, but over the years, I had pretty much forgotten having seen them.

On this blog, I tend to discuss several topics on a repeated basis, some of which deal with dreams, goals, obstacles in life, where and how to find inspiration when life doesn’t seem to be going how you want it to, and so on.

When I saw the ads for the upcoming Rocky movie marathon on TV a few weeks ago, I thought to myself,
“I never really did see all of part 1, and I didn’t understand all of what I saw when I was a kid. This movie is supposed to be inspirational, so maybe I should watch it and then write a blog post about it.”

After I watched the movie – now, as an adult – and some of its sequels – I had a better understanding of why so many did find the movies uplifting.

I was prepared to write a blog post or two about it, including a review of the Rocky series.

Then these sexual abuse allegations from 1986 against Stallone resurfaced, so I did some more internet research, where I found other women had made other, similar accusations against Stallone.

I believe the allegations against Stallone.

I believe, after having read several news sources, that Stallone is, or has been, regularly abusive towards women, that he repeatedly sexually, physically, and emotionally abused his now-deceased half-sister Toni Ann Filiti (also known as Toni D’Alto), and that he is (or was at one time) a serial sexual predator whose favorite target group were girls ages 13 to 17.

I have much more to say about all that as I continue this post, but I wanted to say how terribly disappointed I was to discover all this.

Stallone pretty much admits to much of what I wrote previously in part 1 – that he has been a control freak and egomaniac over the course of his life – in a 2006 interview with Christian television host Pat Robertson (watch on You Tube, where Stallone was plugging his “Rocky Balboa” movie on Robertson’s Christian program “The 700 Club”).

As to that 700 Club interview, where he was discussing his “Rocky Balboa” movie, I am a little cynical.

I’d like to believe Stallone seriously cares about spirituality and so on, but I wonder if that was nothing but pure marketing because he was wanting evangelical Christians to run out and see his movie.

Also note that the “Rocky Balboa” movie – the very movie he was marketing on Pat Robertson’s Christian program – was released in the year 2006, and see this headline from 2007:

Stallone pleads guilty to Australia drug charges

May 2007

Sylvester Stallone pleaded guilty Tuesday to two charges of importing banned substances into Australia, saying he takes the muscle-building drugs for a medical condition and didn’t know he was breaking the law.

Stallone, star of the “Rocky” and “Rambo” films, didn’t appear in court. He left Australia in February after authorities confiscated the substances.

…He was charged after a customs search of his luggage in February revealed 48 vials of the human growth drug Jintropin.

Three days later, Stallone threw four vials out a window of his Sydney hotel when customs officials arrived to search his room, prosecutor David Agius told the court.

–(end quotes)–

Considering his ego, unprofessional behavior on movie sets, and control freak behavior, Stallone doesn’t sound like a pleasant person to have worked with or for.

In a future post, I will be discussing Stallone’s family of origin (that post is available here). From what I’ve seen of them, I do not think they are or were conservative, evangelical Christians.

As I learned when researching information about Stallone’s family:

Stallone’s mother, Jackie, apparently dabbled in fortune telling, something odd-ball called “Rumpology,” and I think she was into things probably involving tarot card reading or similar- all that mystical mumbo-jumbo is regarded as pagan or possibly evil and Satanic by Christians.

The Bible forbids believers from dabbling in the occult, but dabble in the occult is what Jackie Stallone did – for years, and maybe still does.

Stallone is not his mother, but, if he comes from a family that didn’t instill conservative, biblical Christianity into his upbringing, I’m finding it hard to believe he became an actual follower of Christ later in life (though it could be possible, but I’m looking at some of his life style choices and the sexual abuse accusations and wondering).

I am also dismayed, if the sexual allegation charges are true, that Stallone would have the audacity to use a Christian television show appearance to market one of his movies – to try and convince Christians to see one of his movies.

For a few examples of Stallone’s questionable on-set behavior and one-time arrogance, listen to these interviews with actor Brian Thompson and cinematographer Ric Waite, who worked with Stallone on the movie Cobra:

(You Tube Link): Summer of 1986: COBRA via Movie Geeks United

I read (possibly on a Wiki page) that after Stallone wrote the script for the movie ‘Cobra’ (which was based on a book called ‘Fair Game’) that he asked the author of the book to put his name, Stallone’s, on the cover after the movie came out.

If you base your script on an author’s work, you do not ask the author to slap your name on future editions of their book! The author remains the originator of the work and the author deserves the credit.

I haven’t been able to verify that story about the Fair Game book and Cobra, but if it’s true, holy smokes, what an ego.

(The author of this blog page says that it was likely the movie studio that wanted to put Stallone’s name on forth-coming published copies of a Cobra-titled book, not Stallone himself.)

Stallone’s co-workers from “Cobra” say that Stallone’s behavior on set was unprofessional or selfish.

Stallone, Waite and Thompson say in the You Tube audio interviews I linked to above, was

  • spending more time goofing around and playing kissy-face with his then-girlfriend Brigitte Nielsen on the set than shooting the movie;
  • Stallone refused to help his co-star Thompson film a scene, and instead watched a basketball game on television;
  • and, in spite of the fact that Stallone helped write the script and was a seasoned big time movie actor by this point, (contrasted with Thompson’s rookie status), didn’t help Thompson come up with a backstory for the character he was playing.

I was disappointed to learn that Stallone was unfaithful to his first wife, Sasha Czack.

It wasn’t until I began researching Stallone online that my memory was jogged. Once it was, I do remember in the newspapers in the 1980s seeing a few mentions of Stallone brazenly and openly cheating on his then-wife Sasha Czack, who later divorced him.

If memory serves me, Czack divorced Stallone over the several affairs he had, and, there’s this:

This page at the Guardian provides a biography,  as well as Stallone’s background. Also on that page, we read:

The film [1976’s Rocky] was another hit.

Off-screen, though, there was trouble.

“After Rocky, I bragged a lot about everything,” he admitted. “I went crazy. I kept getting better and better cars. I’d have one big house so I’d look around for a bigger one. Women were lining up for my favours. I was a moron in paradise.”

He was publicly unfaithful to Sasha, and left her numerous times. “When people say you’re cheating, cheating has such a negative connotation. What I was doing, basically, was following my heart, not my mind.” (She eventually divorced him in 1985.)

–(end quotes)–

No, you weren’t “following your heart.” That is a euphemism. You were committing adultery. There is no watering that down. There is no justification for it.

Brigitte Nielsen

Stallone later went on to marry two different models, Brigitte Nielsen, and he’s been married to Jennifer Flavin since 1997 (Flavin’s Wiki page is located here and Nielson’s page is located here).

According to this 2010 Zimbio article, Stallone claims he “barely remembers” being married to Nielsen. That comes off as rather flippant.

I have read on various web sites that Stallone met Nielsen in the mid 1980s because she mailed him some modeling photos of herself (one site says some of the photos were nudes), and so he wanted to meet her. He ended up casting her in a few of his movies. They got married and divorced after two years.

I remember reading a blurb about Stallone dating or marrying Nielsen in an issue of People magazine at the time.

I always thought she was very harsh looking, with the sharp, angular, severe hair cut.

There were rumors in the 1980s that Nielsen was bi-sexual or a lesbian, and the media bugged Stallone for a response.

Stallone gave a reply that today would probably not be considered politically correct (this reply comes via People magazine, July 1987):

“I am totally outraged by the fictitious allegations made in a London newspaper about my estranged beautiful wife [Brigitte Nielsen]. She’s a totally feminine woman.”

From a 1987 People magazine article, Nielsen explains their breakup:

Along the way she caused enough loose-lipped talk to sink the Sixth Fleet, being linked with her female secretary, Kelly Sahnger, and her Cop director, Tony Scott.

Nielsen, 24, denies both accusations—and all others for that matter. “I am absolutely not a lesbian,” says Brigitte, who blames mother-in-law Jackie Stallone for fueling the rumor.

“I understand she’s a sick woman.” No, her two-year marriage didn’t end with a fight over finances or infidelity. “It’s not like we woke up one morning and there was this humongous explosion,” she says. “Slowly we just realized it wasn’t going to work.” And no, she isn’t seriously involved with anyone. “I wish I was. But I honestly don’t have the time.”

–(end quotes)–

For whatever it’s worth, the compiler of this web page believes that Nielsen has aged better than Stallone:

15 Actors Who Have Aged Horribly Compared To Their Female Exes

I do think when Nielsen is clean and dressed up nicely, she looks wonderful, but this site published photos of her, in 2012, rolling around publicly drunk, apparently with no make-up on, and she’s looking worse for the wear:

How did Stallone’s movie star wife Brigitte Nielsen end up as a drunk in the park?

Janice Dickinson

Dickinson dated Stallone for awhile – I think this was after his marriage to Nielsen. Yes; one site says Dickinson dated Stallone in the early 1990s.

Here’s what Dickinson had to say about knowing Stallone:

How I seduced some of the most famous – and slimy – men in Hollywood, by I’m A Celebrity wildcat Janice Dickinson – November 2007

One day I was shooting Naomi Campbell – in the nude – when this muscular little guy turned up, unannounced, looking for her.

I didn’t recognise him until I took a closer look. It was Sylvester Stallone. I couldn’t believe how short he was and had to stifle a laugh.

He flirted outrageously with me behind Naomi’s back (they were dating at the time), but it wasn’t until I bumped into him at the Hotel du Cap in the South of France during the Cannes Film Festival some time later that things really took off.

He was working on the film Demolition Man in LA, and offered to fly me back with him in the Warner Brothers private jet to take some photographs of him on set.

The plane was a palace, with half a dozen actual bedrooms. Sly came over and gave me a big kiss. He still looked very short.

We slept chastely in the same bed for the duration of the flight – and as he kissed me goodbye at the terminal, I tried not to think about how good it had felt to be in his arms.

Two days later, his assistant called and asked me to meet Sly at his house in Benedict Canyon.

I took my cameras – expecting to go straight on to the film set – but ended up going up to his bedroom to look for him.

“What are we waiting for?” I asked impatiently.

“This,” he said. He took me in his big arms and started kissing me.

Before I knew it, we were both naked on the bed. It didn’t last long but I think I enjoyed it.

As we drove downtown, I was full of self-loathing.

Growing up in Florida, I’d had a very abusive childhood (my father, a Navy man, was a bully who abused his family sexually, physically and mentally) and now I was starting to realise that sleeping with lots of different men was not helping me find the self-esteem that I thought it would.

In the space of a week, I had slept with three men – my then partner, film producer Michael Birnbaum; an abstract artist who was a close friend of Bette Midler (who introduced us); and Stallone.

Things hadn’t been going well with Michael for some time, and we split up later that week when I came clean about Stallone.

But Sly didn’t call, as I had expected him to, and a week later I discovered I was pregnant.

I called Sly and went over to see him. We had supper and made love – he’d improved considerably since our brief debut. Then I told him I was pregnant.

“How do you know it’s not Michael Birnbaum’s?” he asked.

Well, I didn’t – in fact, it could even have been the artist’s – but in all honesty, deep down, I felt the child was Sly’s.

Sly was really good about it. We started spending more time together, but when the pregnancy began to show, he didn’t like it.

He offered me a million bucks to get rid of the baby. I told him I wasn’t interested.

[She later had a baby girl, Stallone visited her in the hospital after the birth. Then Stallone, who ran D.N.A. tests on the baby, found out the baby was not his.]

“She’s not mine,” he [Stallone] said. “I just heard from the DNA lab in Long Beach. Savannah’s not mine. Send my regards to Mr Birnbaum” – and with that he stood up.

“We had a good run, Janice. Say nice things about me and I’ll say nice things about you.” And then he turned and walked out.

–(end quotes)–

Stallone comes across like a complete self involved, selfish dirt bag here. Offering her money to abort a baby that he thought might be his, then coldly and instantly dumping her once he found out that the baby girl is someone else’s?

By the way, how does Dickinson know that Stallone was telling the truth about the paternity test?

Maybe Stallone never got a D.N.A. (paternity) test on the baby but lied to her and said that he did.

Or, maybe Stallone got a DNA test performed on the baby but he lied about the results.

Maybe Stallone really was the father but just lied to Dickinson and made up a story about him getting a DNA test on the baby and it not matching.

From the Baltimore Post Express:

In 2008 Stallone’s’ ex-fiancée, and Cosby accuser, former supermodel, Janice Dickinson, told the press that Stallone was taken into custody in Japan after being caught with the same muscle-building drug he was convicted for possession of in Australia the previous year.

Dickenson told a U.S TV show that Stallone had taken the drugs to boost his body during their relationship in the early 1990’s, and claimed that Stallone once injected her in the arm when she was asleep. Stallone denied the allegations at the time.

Dickenson stated, “If he doesn’t shut his big mouth, I’m going to really tell everybody what he did to me.  If he doesn’t retract calling me a liar, I’m ready to really talk- and he doesn’t want that, so he’d better make nice…”

–(end quotes)–

It sounds as though Dickinson has a lot more dirt on Stallone.

Stallone’s fury at ex-love Janice Dickinson’s steroid claims

While Stallone does not sound like a prize in any of this, after reading this page on Howard Stern’s site, where Dickinson claims she-

  • had lesbian sex when a teen, and
  • discusses the “animal, primal sex” she had with Stallone, and
  • the numerous other men she’s had sex with (including threesomes), and
  • she talks about how she loved, loved, cocaine,
  • plus, she has a really filthy mouth

-she’s no prize, either.

And that page on Stern’s would be this one:

From what I can see, Stallone has poor taste in women in real life.

(Stallone’s fictional alter-ego, Rocky, has much better taste in women – I refer here to his screen wife, Adrian – and Rocky isn’t a pervert, and certainly not the kind of guy to offer a woman a million dollars to abort a baby he fathered.)

Dickinson is vulgar. Stallone, if all these articles I’m reading are accurate, is also vulgar. He’s willing to have sex with or date vulgar women. Hollywood, fame, and money are atrocious.

I just found a site where by it is claimed Stallone paid for Dickinson to have her breasts enlarged. If that was his suggestion, that would make him a sexist pig, though I suppose it’s possible she asked him for the funds for the procedure.

This link discusses a cable television episode Dickinson was on called “Botched.”

Freak Show & Tell: Janice Dickinson Parts Ways With Two Old Gifts From Sly Stallone

Who Is This Now? Janice Dickinson.

Why Are We Watching Her?
She’s unhappy with the current state of her breasts and wants Drs. Paul Nassif and Terry Dubrow to fix them for her.

How Did She Get Here?
Many years ago, Sylvester Stallone paid for Janice to have her breasts enlarged. She should have had her implants switched out every decade or so after that, but she hasn’t.
